Join us for an enriching journey into the world of food justice through an engaging and hands-on workshop series designed for you to connect with peers of all ages and build meaningful relationships across generations. This series blends education, advocacy, and creativity to empower participants to make meaningful changes in their communities. Whether you’re new to the concept of food justice or a seasoned advocate, this workshop series offers something for everyone. Join us as we work together towards a more just and equitable food system for all.

Session 1: Understanding Food Justice – Saturday, July 20th, 12-2pm
In our first session, we delve into the fundamental concepts of food justice. Participants will explore topics such as food sovereignty, food access disparities, sustainable agriculture, and the impact of food systems on social justice issues. Through interactive activities and conversations, we will uncover the interconnectedness of food, health, and social equity. We will also roll up our sleeves and step into the kitchen! Led by experienced chefs and culinary experts, participants will learn how to prepare delicious, nutritious meals using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Cooking demos will highlight sustainable cooking practices, cooking on a budget, and cooking with diet-related chronic conditions in mind.
Session 2: Advocacy and Action – Saturday, August 24th, 12-2pm
Building on our foundational knowledge, session two focuses on advocacy strategies and practical steps towards food justice. From grassroots organizing to policy advocacy, participants will learn how to effectively advocate for food equity in their neighborhoods and beyond. We will also roll up our sleeves and step into the kitchen! Led by experienced chefs and culinary experts, participants will learn how to prepare delicious, nutritious meals using seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Cooking demos will highlight sustainable cooking practices, cooking on a budget, and cooking with diet-related chronic conditions in mind.
Session 3: Art and Activism – TBD September Date
This series will culminate by bringing together art and activism through a creative zine making project. Participants will channel their learnings and personal experiences into visually compelling zines that explore themes of food justice, community resilience, and sustainable food systems. Facilitators will guide the group in storytelling, design techniques, and zine production, culminating in a showcase of participants’ unique creations.
- This event is open to residents of the Lower East Side
- All ages are invited to join us – We seek to create space for people can connect across generations. During the presentations, there will be child-friendly activities available to keep the little ones engaged and entertained.
- Space is limited. Preference will be given to participants who are able to attend all sessions.
