Bird Walk at Jamaica Bay

Saturday, August 3 10 am–12 pm

Join the LES Ecology Center and Elijah Shiffer for a bird walk at Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge!

August is the peak of fall shorebird migration in New York, and Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge is one of the best places to see it. Some shorebirds migrate inland in the spring and would only be seen here in late summer and fall on their way south. We will be especially looking for these species, which include White-rumped, Western, and Stilt Sandpipers as well as the possibility of rare visitors such as phalaropes and godwits. We will also be on the lookout for local breeding birds including Yellow-crowned Night-heron, Clapper Rail, Glossy Ibis, and Black Skimmer.
