Join the S.W.I.M. Coalition!

Mayor Bloomberg's PLANYC aims for 90% of the city's waters open for recreation. Tell Bloomberg we want the water safe for primary contact (wading, swimming, splashing and kayaking)!

Combined Sewer Overflows (CSO) dump more than 27 billion gallons of untreated sewage and polluted storm water into NYC waterways each year. To stop this, we can capture stormwater on land, and green our communities in the process.

Storm Water Infrastructure Matters (S.W.I.M.) is a coalition dedicated to ensuring swimmable waters around New York City through natural, sustainable storm water management practices in our neighborhoods.

Please distribute this invitation to people and groups who want to make the city greener to make the water cleaner!

For more information or questions, e-mail swimmablenyc@gmail.com.

East River Park Planning update:

Get Hooked on East River Park!

Since May 2006, LESEC has been meeting with Lower East Side community members to collect ideas about how three sites in East River Park could be best utilized to meet their needs. On July 10th, we presented a report of what we heard in these meetings. You can view the report here(click to download 1.1MB PDF file).

The planning group, now called Community Hooked on East River Park (CHERP), supports the ideas presented in this report, and is working to promote the southern end of East River Park off of the historic Corlears Hook neighborhood.

For more information on upcoming CHERP events, visit www.CHERPnyc.org To get involved with CHERP, contact (212) 477-4022 or info@lesecologycenter.org
