Greening

The Ecology Center's Green Space program offers opportunities for New Yorkers to care for the city's green open space. The program focuses on open space preservation and maintenance, wildlife habitat creation, and urban gardening at the Lower East Side Ecology Center Garden and East River Park.

The Ecology Center holds cleanup and gardening volunteer days in partnership with various local organizations, corporations and institutions to bring people into hands-on contact with the natural environment. During these stewardship events, participants might weed, plant native plants and bulbs, apply compost and woodchips to garden beds and take part in other restorative measures.
