A compost pile belongs in every garden - so for those fortunate enough to have access to a yard, terrace, roof-top or community garden, composting food and garden waste right on site will make you self sufficient and sustainable by eliminating the need to buy and transport expensive fertilizers for your plants. A compost pile will also give you the pleasure of creating your very own natural soil amendment while at the same time reducing the amount of waste you throw away. Combine your chopped up garden browns like fall leaves and dried out plants, with fresh trimmings and food scraps, and manage your bin by aerating it and monitoring moisture levels.
