Garden

The Lower East Side Ecology Center Garden was founded in 1990 and is located on E 7th Street between Avenues B & C. This open space, which was a rubble-filled, city-owned lot when we received the lease, inspired the Ecology Center to start a compost program. Every tree and plant in the garden has grown up on compost made right on site.

The garden now serves as a compost drop off location, and in its park like setting offers the community a respite from the hassle and bustle of the city. Additionally the Ecology Center offers "The Arts Exposure Program" at the garden to showcase local artists. Through this program sculpture shows and live music performances have been offered to the community since 1997.
