Sustainability-In-Action: Fourth Arts Block (FAB), occupying a small office within the Cooper Square Committee office building, works hard to influence their landlord's sustainability practices. Using energy efficient bulbs, spot lighting, and power strips, the office already uses a very small amount of energy, but they also asked CSC to switch to a 100% wind energy provider. Their recent purchase of a money tree has made the office a happier and more productive space while improving the overall indoor air quality. FAB also does a lot to educate its neighbors in the community about sustainable practices. FAB is also organizing and participating in the “East Fourth Street Model Block” project, of the Borough President’s Go Green Lower East Side Initiative.
Sustainability Goals: FAB will continue to work with its landlords to try to get the office bathroom and cleaning supplies switched over to more eco-friendly products. They are also in the middle of a waste challenge to see if they can reduce their garbage output.
