Sustainability-In-Action: Luca Bar conserves energy by using dimmers for their lights, cleaning appliances and light fixtures, and by using power strips and turning them off when the bar is not in use. They have a programmable thermostat and turn off their heating and cooling during non-occupied hours. In the summer, they open their windows and conserve energy. They have installed a toilet water displacer to save water. They have eliminated bottled water. In terms of waste, they recycle all things required by NYC law and show their employees how and what to recycle. Fifty-percent of their food and beverages are bought locally from producers within 200 miles of New York City.
Sustainability Goals: Luca Bar plans to continue implementing energy saving and waste-reducing recommendations to lower their ecological footprint. They plan to start buying post-consumer recycled toilet paper and paper towels, as well as post-consumer recycled office paper. They also plan to install low-flow aerators on their faucets.
