SUBWAY: Take the F, J, or M to Essex/Delancey stop in the Lower Eastside, Manhattan. When you exit the station, walk East on Delancey (the Williamsburg Bridge will be on your left) until you reach the FDR. Cross the Delancey footbridge and turn right once you enter the park. The Fireboat House will be on your left in approximately two blocks, just before the big ballfield. The building is a two-story red brick building and there are seal-sculptures in front.
BUS: Take either the M14 to Grand and FDR or the M22 to Jackson and Cherry St., then cross over the footbridge at Cherry St. (in Corelears Park) , turn left once you enter the park, and the Fireboat House will be on your right just after the big ballfield.
CAR:
From Williamsburg Bridge, once on Delancey Street (Manhattan) make the first left possible (Allen Street). Take Allen Street to Grand Street and left on Grand.
From 2nd Avenue (if you are coming over Willis Avenue Bridge). Take 2nd avenue all the way down to Grand Street and make a left on Grand.
For both: Take Grand to Montgomery Street –also called Samuel Dickstein Plaza-make a right on Montgomery Street and take it to the end (3 blocks). Straight ahead there will be 2 piers, a DoT yard, and the East River. Above is the elevated FDR Drive. Go straight, and proceed into the blacktop area. There is a service road leading into East River Park between the fence of Pier and the FDR Drive. The sidewalk turns into the service road and there will be pedestrians, etc. Nonetheless, proceed, slowly, over the small asphalt ramp that lets you go up the curb. Head straight—parallel to the FDR—until you see parking lots to your right. Pull in to the parking lot and the park there. The Fireboat House is approximately 3 blocks into the park (right on the river) and just after the big ballfield. |
